They looked confused for a moment, then they pulled out the other presents that were under the bag of coal, and merrily ripped those open, and never once looked back at the bag of coal . . . Hmm, we thought, what a failure that was! They didn't care that there was coal in the stocking instead of some of the presents, because they still got presents anyway. We figured it wasn't worth repeating this year, even though the pre-Christmas behaviour wasn't any better. This year on Christmas morning Dear Son excitedly pulled everything out of his stocking and shrieked, "No coal!!! And I wasn't even good!"
